Burton Agnes Hall & Gardens

One of England’s twenty finest alongside Windsor Castle, Buckingham Palace and Chatsworth House.

Burton Agnes Hall & Gardens

Simon Jenkins, author of ‘England’s Thousand Best Houses’, described Burton Agnes Hall as ‘the perfect English house’, one of England’s twenty finest alongside Windsor Castle, Buckingham Palace and Chatsworth House.

The Elizabethan Hall, designed by Robert Smythson, contains exquisite Elizabethan carvings and a superb art collection including  many Impressionist works. Outside, the gardens offer flamboyant seasonal displays of colour, shape, texture and scent. Explore several thousand plant varieties, herbaceous borders and a potager, the jungle garden, classical ponds and the Woodland Walk. Many treats await in the courtyard. Original, handcrafted gifts and souvenirs can be found in the two courtyard shops and a local artists’ gallery, and the café serves home-made meals using the garden’s fruit and vegetables and local ingredients.
