Barley Hall, Yorkshire, England

Discover a medieval townhouse in the heart of York.

Once home to the Priors of Nostell and a Lord Mayor of York. Until the 1980s the building was hidden under a modern facade, with the amazing medieval structure only discovered and its rich history uncovered when it was about to be destroyed. Now restored to its original splendour, Barley Hall is dressed as it would have been when the Snawsell family called it home in 1483. Boasting stunning high ceilings, beautiful exposed timbers and a magnificent Great Hall, we invite you to make yourself at home in the Middle Ages. Plus: Discover Henry VIII’s impact on York through archaeology and first-hand accounts of life in the city at the ‘Power & Glory’ exhibition, included in your admission.
